About YOFO

About us and YOFO.  Let’s see - that’s tough to nail down - so we'll break it down a bit.

Who:  Think along the lines of international relations professor guy partners with engineer “show me the maths” gal. Each come with pets and toys.  Mix in careers in the army.  Add zest for meeting challenges, the crazy kind.  Spice that up with various bikes, hikes, kayaks, well-worn running shoes, books.  Bake it all up in the great outdoors, woods, deserts, mountains.  Sweating is not optional.  Goes well with great food, red wine, and field-grade beer.  Finish with lively banter, rants, puns and the occasional snark.  Guaranteed to produce a love of life, each other, and prime numbers.

What: We don’t have a plan. We have a vision. The devil is in the details so we avoid them.  At least one of us never follows a recipe anyway, and it drives the other nuts, until she tries it.  We’re going to sort it out as it comes and goes.

When: oh, this is happening, like, soon.  Hitting the road around 31 May.  We’ll keep you posted on the fly.

How: first step was buying a truck and fifth wheel travel trailer.  Next, sell the home we’ve lived in for the past ten years (and all the schtuff you collect).  And then...drive.

The stuff: 2014 Ram 3500; 2014 Arctic Fox 27-5L; Wilderness Systems Pungo120; Perception Prodigy12; Quintana Roo Cd0.1; Jamis Dakar; Ridley Dean; Salsa Spearfish; Keen Targhee IIs, lungs and legs with more than a few miles in them.

The name:  "YOFO?"  Did I mention the combined 50 years of service in the Army?  Acronyms are in our blood.  YOFO is our “Year Of F*&@ing Off.”  Or if you prefer “Year of Finding Ourselves.”  Or would you accept “Year Of Fun Outdoors.”  “Year Of Dicking Around?” Oh wait, that's YODA...have fun, we will.  Do or do not, there is no try.  Regardless of the name, we are ditching work for a year to see this already-great country. “Murica...fuck yeah!"

The Trip:  hit the northern US and Canada in the hot months; hit the southern tier states in the cold months.  Told ya, we’re not into the details.  Obviously we need help.  We’re searching for cool places to visit, hike, bike, eat, chill...you get the idea.  Wanna help?  Send us your suggestions, advice, encouragement!
